Happy Cinco de Mayo! To celebrate, I wanted to try an at-home version of my favorite warm weather cocktail: the Paloma. You can make this using tequila or mescal—whichever you prefer! Serve it up in some festive salt-rimmed glasses, and you have everything you need to get the fiesta going.
1 grapefruit wedge
1/2 cup fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice
1 teaspoon sugar
2-4 shots tequila or mescal
Spread a light layer of kosher salt on a plate, and rub the rim of a glass with the grapefruit wedge. Dip the rim of the glass in the salt. Stir together the grapefruit juice and sugar until the sugar is dissolved, pour into glasses. Stir in tequila or mescal, drop in a couple ice cubes and top off with club soda. Garnish with grapefruit wedge.
