Liz Adams is a fashion and personal style blogger living in the charming Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago with her husband, Dave, and their chocolate lab, Webster. Sequins & Stripes started in 2011 as an outlet for Liz’s background in fashion and textiles and a place to document her personal style on a daily basis. More than two years later, Liz has worked with a handful of fashion brands and labels, including Nordstrom, Kate Spade New York, Madewell, Neiman Marcus, Henri Bendel, LOFT, Refinery 29, Old Navy, Bloomingdale’s, Target, and Topshop, in both creative partnerships and brand representation. Sequins & Stripes was most recently listed as a top fashion blog in Chicago by CBS Chicago and was featured in the SunTimes Splash as a blogger turned entrepreneur.
A little bit about Liz: she’s addicted to coffee, lives for to-do lists, wakes up with the sun, owns too many pairs of ballet flats, laughs at herself, loves to entertain, and believes that confidence is the best accessory.

classic, preppy, married to neutral but occasional affairs with jewel tones, striped!

Classic, feminine and a little preppy. It depends on how much money I have to spend!
Yes to stripes, I totally agree!

Those Feragamo flats have been on my wishlist for yearss. They are perfect.
I have to agree, a white blouse that fits well and a coat that makes a statement with its tailoring defintely are must haves!
I agree on a pair of flats. Heels are great, but they are not going to get you through a long day.
My style is very eclectic. It changes with my mood….day to day.

Perfect list Liz! Especially the white blouse. It works under stuff, over stuff, or can stand alone. Have a great Tuesday! x
My style is very eclectic and based on the mood! These basics are perfect for anyone!

Great recommendations! I’d describe my style as fun, classic, fashion forward and accessible. It depends on my mood, really. Spot on post!

My wardrobe fluctuates with my mood more than I’d like it to. But more often than not, I can be found in a pair of relaxed jeans with a simple tee and a LOT of jewelry. I’d rather make a statement with accessories than I would with a bold top or pant.

I am always searching for great “fashion fundamentals” advice. Thank you so much for this post and I am glad I found your blog! (www.blairsays.com)
Great post! I’ve been drooling over that Jcrew photo for the past week, so fun….I always think of my style as pretty classic but my friends are always saying, “I saw the weirdest (insert fashion item here) at the store the other day and I thought of you”….not sure what kind of reflection that is on me? haha
I’m very classic as well. I wear a lot of neutrals but always add a pop of colour, either in my shoe or in a bold statement accessory! Love it 🙂
Okay I have everything but the white blouse (which you’re right about by the way), that one is gorgeous, do know of any that are closer to the $50-$100 range?
Completely agree about the white blouse, coat and flats. Such timeless pieces.

Totally agree with everything!!! These are definitely timeless pieces that can be worn with anything!! xo
I completely agree, and really want those J.Crew pants!
LOVE that picture. I completely agree on getting more stripes!

I have to say I think I’m casual and elegant. I have to dress up everyday for work but I always choose easy dresses, simple jewelry and heels but everything has to be put together and elegant. I wish I got to venture out more but I have to be conservative. I try to keep it simple as well but I always like to be comfortable even in my dressy clothes.
i’m so obsessed with that photo! 🙂 also this was a lovely post. i am pretty run of the mill classy (?) with a casual touch…

My staples usually end up being neutrals, and then I try to spice up with colorful accessories. I’ve gotta be more brave with color — loved your choices!

Great advice, also a killer pair of heels!

Gosh I love those pants and picture! I’m not sure I would wear those exact pants, but I do love how trendy and bold the floral print is.
Thanks for this post! I agree that while those staples are important, they might not be what you use to assemble your outfits most of the time. My style is simple and feminine, with lots of pretty prints and classic cuts.
Great post! I agree with all of your staples, but I have to add a great pair of black/gray slacks, heels, and a cardigan. Couldn’t live without those pieces!

I love how you put it – although some pieces are important in any wardrobe, it’s the trends that you really like and stick to that defines your style! I’ve been obsessed with stripes and studs lately…oh and bright colors

agreed on these staples {and i would also add a statement necklace or pair of earrings that you can throw on to make your outfit go from day to night}
