Closet Staple: Everlane Silk Dress

Does anyone else struggle when it comes to buying basics? It is kind of a weird problem to have but I guess I tend to gravitate more towards novelty pieces than items I know that I need. Then in instances where I’m struggling with what to wear I always wish I had bought that blouse or button down shirt or silk dress or blazer.

After I had Charlie I was on the hunt for items that rounded out my wardrobe. Pieces that were classic, feminine and would be acceptable for work, play, day or night. A silk dress is one item that I honestly couldn’t live without. Whether it is a meeting, lunch, travel requirement, date night, brunch with friends – this dress is always appropriate. I recently picked out this light grey dress from Everlane for spring/summer after having navy and black from previous seasons. It really can’t be beat for the $125 price tag. The quality is amazing and I love the bottom hemline that helps it fall just right. It is also double lined making it thick and luxurious.

If you haven’t picked up on it yet, Everlane is a great source for high quality basics (cashmere sweaters for $100!) that are timeless and affordable. I am always impressed with their pieces like my new favorite slides seen here. If you have any questions about their items, feel free to leave them in the comments 🙂

Hope you guys had a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by, as always!

  1. Love this! Such a nice and sleek alternative to frilly dresses. I am also always buying floral dress after floral dress but a basic solid is always what gets the most wear!

  2. What size are you wearing? Always curious about sizing when you can’t try on items in the store…

  3. This is a great staple dress and I love how you made it edgy with the leather jacket and aviators. #coolmom 🙂

    xo, Jennifer

  4. Hi Liz! I am wondering if you found this dress to wrinkle at all due to the material. Do you think I could wear this to work and it would not wrinkle throughout the day?
you look great by the way!
    xo Priya

    1. No I didn’t! It is so thick which I think helps it to not wrinkle – I wore it all weekend and didn’t iron it once…

  5. If you like the silk dress, Everlane also has a similar dress (sleeveless, slightly A-line) in their Japanese GoWeave fabric.

I bought it last year and it is THE BEST travel dress ever; the fabric is designed to keep you cool and it really really works, besides which it does not wrinkle. Amazing!

  6. I’m on the hunt for some longer, basic, looser t-shirts for running around with my kids. Have you had any luck? I love the BP long sleeved striped shirts that you’ve linked to in the past but haven’t been able to find anything similar.

  7. The link for the leather jacket is taking me to a Maxwell moto, which is different than that one in your post. Is this jacket from Zara? Thanks for your help. Haven’t been able to find a moto that works for me yet and I really like the one you have one.
