Chase Your Dreams

Chase Your DreamsYesterday I had a really good day. A day that felt 100% about me. It started with your typical Monday morning where it was nearly impossible to get out of bed but then I remembered a quote that I pinned right before I went to sleep on Sunday night and I decided to get up and make the day mine. I rushed out of bed, went to a wonderfully intense yoga class, took a hot shower, spent 7 quiet hours at my office, booked our trip to Europe in May {!!!}, cooked a healthy dinner, and finished the evening on the couch. It was one of those days where every moment felt accomplished.

I’ve been in a slump lately, maybe not a slump, just a continuous cycle of the same thing. Work, eat, sleep, repeat. Staying in bed has sounded really nice these last few days. When I was interviewed for this article, I was asked what my goals are for the next five years. Five years? I’m going to get married, stay in Chicago, start a family, continue to grow my business, keep pushing myself to do more – that’s ok right? Then, the more questions I was asked the more I realized that I don’t like to live my life based on whether or not I accomplished my goals, put pressure on myself to do more, or wait for the next big thing to happen. The thing is, I’m still trying to figure it out – there are so many things that I want to do – I want to travel more, I want to work with more brands, I want to be more confident in pitching my own ideas, I want to spend less, I want to grow and re-design S&S – I want, want, want. That’s exhausting. I am 27 years old, I am about to be a wife {whattt?}, I am working to build a savings for my future, and I am still trying to navigate my way through the depths of owning my own business and maintaining a personal life. I can’t base today off of dreams or wants or what I should be doing, today is about the little victories and that alone makes me want to get out of bed and hustle to do the best that I can. So however you interpret this quote, hopefully it helps you to tackle the day the best that you can instead of hiding under the covers.

  1. I really like this quote. I feel the need to print it out and stick it to an inspiration board. Everyday I am stuck in a slump; just moved to a new city and looking for a new job while taking night classes. All the while, my fiancé is 9 hours away with school and work. I miss him terribly and all I want to do is just stay in bed all day. This quote has helped me realize that I need to be more proactive and reach out to more people and my new city. Thank You!

  2. I like this quote, but I like your thoughts about it even more. As a newly married 24 year old, I feel like people are constantly asking what I want, what my goals are, and what’s next- which is great. I love dreaming and setting goals. But sometimes I just need to focus on the now, on what’s right in front of me. Sometimes, the thought of coffee and breakfast is what gets me out of bed. The immediate joys and victories- they matter too. 🙂

  3. Great Post Liz! I can certainly relate to the daily grind – sometimes it feels like we’re on auto-pilot, but really its the little daily things that help us creep slowly towards the goal. You’ve totally got this! Your hard work always shines through all your posts. Keep doing what your doing – you’re a bigger inspiration than you know.

  4. Great post Liz! I can absolutely relate to the feeling of the daily grind – buts its the little repetitive things that help us creep towards the bigger goal…you’ve totally got this! Keep doing what your doing – your hard work absolutely shines through every post and your certainly a bigger inspiration than you know!

  5. This couldn’t be more true. It is very easy to just stay in bed and ignore any challenges or stressful things you have going on in life; trust me – I know. But if we choose to “stay in bed” during life we will just watch our opportunities and dream float by. It is hard, but we have to go forward and go for it! This is something I’m working towards this year.

  6. Thanks for posting this! I read it twice to get double dose of inspiration. It was a refreshing set of words to read before hitting my pillow for bed.

  7. That quote was exactly what I needed this morning. Staying in bed and hiding beneath the covers sounds heavenly to be honest but now I feel like I owe it to myself to get out be productive! Thanks for the kick in the b… 😉

    Wonderful and Marvelous

  8. I think we all have days like where we feel complacent. The moment you feel the urge to do something great do it! You have had so much success thus far and I look forward to seeing the other amazing things you pursue.

    Thanks for the quote, perfect!

  9. This post couldn’t have come at a more perfect time! This will be my new motto for the next upcoming weeks! Thank you for this!

  10. Thank you for posting it! Life is so crazy sometimes, isn’t it? I think we forget to enjoy it as we knock things off our bucket list! It’s good to have little reminders to slow down and enjoy it all

  11. i don’t like living my life according to goals either. they change, evolve and grow as I do, so something that seemed like a big deal a year ago might not be that way today. I’m trying to learn to just let those things go and focus on what makes me happy. I do love this quote and agree that with the cold weather, it would be really nice to stay in bed all day 🙂 enjoy FL! xo, blair

  12. This post (and that quote) really hit home for me. I am in the process of figuring out what my dreams are and how to chase them but it’s always nice to hear that others are in the same boat!

  13. Life can get exhausting when you are constantly trying to accomplish things. I own a personal shopping businness, run a blog and work full time as a teacher. I think it’s really important to make time for your health. I’m so glad you got to go to a yoga class. Something totally for youeself. It can really cure stress.
Just know the work you are doing is so inspiring to many bloggers out there. I know so many of us here in Chicago look up to you and admire you, myself included of course!
